How Does It Work?
Whether it's your first ebook or your fiftieth, Ebook Editing Services knows that putting your precious manuscript into someone else's hands can be a scary proposition. With this in mind, we personally call each customer and discuss your book, your editing expectations, and are here, in person, to answer your questions.
With most other editing services, you email your book off to the great beyond and correspond through email. In this increasingly electronic age, we understand the comfort of a warm, reassuring voice on the other end of a phone. In traditional publishing houses, editors and authors have personal relationships. We believe that should still be the case and want to connect with our authors.
Our number one goal is to offer you expert editing services with a personal touch.

I’m ready to have my book edited. What do I do next?
Click on the heading Contact Us and fill out the form provided. You will receive a call from us within 48 hours to discuss your book. The editor you speak with will want to know the type of book, (fiction or non-fiction), the number of pages, and the word count. A rate will be agreed upon based on our rate chart, and a turnaround time frame will be established.
After the phone call you will receive an email outlining the agreed upon terms, which you will need to approve and return. We will also send you a signed non-disclosure statement, which is our promise to you that your book, in its entirety, shall remain confidential until publication.
Prior to editing we require a 50% deposit toward the full editing of the book on all jobs over $300. Payments may be made through Paypal using your Paypal account or a major credit card. The balance will be due prior to delivery of the full manuscript.
We will provide you with a dedicated email address where you can send your manuscript. All texts must be in MS Word and end with the suffix .doc or .docx.
How quickly will I get my edited book back?
Most ebooks will be edited within 14-21 business days. However, we know how excited you are to get your ebook published, and anxious to have those royalty checks come rolling in. For an additional fee, we may be able to have your edited manuscript back to you within 7-10 days. This can be discussed during our initial phone call.
We’ll let you know immediately when your book is scheduled for editing. However, longer manuscripts, and those that require more editing, may take longer. We’ll call and e-mail you if we cannot return your edited book within 21 working days.
How do I know what changes you make?
We use Microsoft Word Tracking so you can see the edits. After you go through your book, you can save all edits made. Oftentimes, our editors will put comments or questions alongside highlighted sections of your book. You can either accept all edits, or pick and choose the edits you want - it’s up to you.
Will you change my book?
We don't change your story. We don't alter your voice.
Why do I need an editor?
It doesn’t matter how gifted a writer you are, people make mistakes. Oftentimes, you can't see mistakes in your own writing that others can. Professional editing gives your writing the polished edge that will help take your book sales to the next level.
Second edits - what are they?
We don’t recommend a second edit for most writers. However, if you get your manuscript back and see what we refer to as a “sea of red” or many comments that require large changes, you may wish to have your book receive a second edit. In most cases, if we were your latest editor for the project, we can generally offer you a 7-10 day turnaround and a flat fee second edit for $300.
What if I don’t agree with the changes?
You don’t have to accept all, or any, of the changes we make. It’s up to you.
What if I my book isn't finished yet?
From time to time, we are contracted to edit manuscripts that are not yet completed. We generally don't recommend this route as writers often decide to go back and change an arc or subplot prior to finishing their manuscript. But, if this makes it more comfortable for you, as an author, we may be able to work with you on a piecemeal basis. Just let us know during the initial phone consultation and we will arrange a schedule and pricing option that fits your needs. Remember, we are here to support you in bringing your story to life, and to market.
Who will edit my book?
Our Managing Editor is Kate Stewart. Kate is a member of EFA, the Editorial Freelancers Association, and has been writing and editing for over 30 years. Her Bachelor's Degree from Salem State University, and degree in teaching English from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (UCLA), combined with 10 years of teaching writing, insure that your book will get the special treatment it deserves.
We also have four other editors who proof manuscripts as well. Each book we receive is proofed by at least one editor IN ADDITION to having it proofed by Kate. We realize how important it is that every manuscript gets reviewed by at least two sets of eyes!
What do you use for your sources?
We use The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, the preferred style guide in the book publishing industry, and the Merriam-Webster dictionary while editing your manuscript.
